What is BioInformatics?
A field that merges information technology, biology and computer science. National Library of Medicine defines bioinformatics as the intersection of basic informational and computer sciences with an application domain in biological and biochemical sciences. Department of Energy as the earliest program to work on the Human Genome Project has a lot of free educational resources.
There are many more problems that need to be solved by bioinformatics:
-Tools for analyzing and storing very large datasets, including genomic, proteomic and clinical trials data
-Knowledge representation, including vocabularies, ontolgies, and simulations
-Linkage of clinical and genomic information to benefit health care |
